  • 2004 Pesticide Use Report data has been added to the database.
  • Rounding errors in the pounds_chemical_applied field in PUR 2003 and 2002 data have been resolved.

Version 9.25 Update

  • Addition of New Searchable Data Source.
Pesticide Regulation’s Endangered Species Custom Realtime Internet Bulletin Engine (PRESCRIBE) has been added to the list of data sources now searchable by CalPIP.

Version 9.23 Update

  • 2003 Pesticide Use Report data has been added to the database.
  • Adjuvant Product Information
An adjuvant is a type of pesticide product that is used to aid or enhance the activity or performance of another pesticide product such as an herbicide, insecticide, desiccant, pool product, etc. California law defines adjuvants that are packaged and sold separately as pesticide products that require registration. The U.S. EPA does not register adjuvants. Adjuvant products include defoamers, spreader/stickers, pH modifiers, etc. The fields “chemical name”, “chemical code”, “pounds of chemical” and “chemical percents” for products registered as adjuvants are not available and will show on the output reports as “N/A”.
  • Contains updated data - some label, chemical and license data has been updated as of November 2004.

Corrections to 2002 Pesticide Use Reporting Database

Limitations and correct interpretation of amount product applied and pounds product applied information.

The pesticide use data supporting the CalPIP interface contains information for an individual chemical active ingredient contained in the product used in an application. Since pesticide applications are reported on a product basis, and a product may contain multiple chemical active ingredients, there may be several records for a single application of one product. The value for the amount of product applied (CalPIP data column amount_product_applied) is retained for each chemical-based record, as is the value for the pounds of product applied (CalPIP data column pounds_product_applied).

Consider sample data for two hypothetical pesticide applications.

For the application of Bug Eliminator, which contains one active ingredient (chemical X), 3 quarts, or 15 pounds of the product were applied. Based on the percentage of chemical in the product, 7.5 pounds of chemical X were applied.

For the application of Weed Wilter, which contains two active ingredients (chemicals A and B), 75 gallons or 50 pounds of Weed Wilter product was applied. Based on the percentage of chemicals in the product, 12.5 pounds of chemical A and 5 pounds of chemical B were applied. Since the amount product applied and pounds product applied values are retained for each chemical record, it would be incorrect to add these colums and say that 150 gallons or 100 pounds of Weed Wilter were applied.

For all data, adding the pounds chemical applied values will result in a valid total. For the sample data, it is valid to say that 25 pounds of chemical active ingredients were applied.

In a CalPIP data set, in order for the sum total of pounds product applied or amount product applied to be valid, the data must have been obtained by querying for products that contain only one active ingredient or by querying for a single chemical active ingredient.
